Are you at risk? Read these healthy lifestyle tips to avoid hypertension and help lower down your blood cholesterol level

  • The ideal and normal blood pressure of an individual is 120/80.  You should know your own BP.
  • One out of four Filipinos has a high blood pressure.  If you are overweight, try to reduce 10 pounds of your weight.  This will greatly contribute in lowering down your blood pressure for about five to ten points.
  • If you are suffering from hypertension, you should avoid eating salt rich foods.
  • One out of ten Filipinos has a high cholesterol level.  If your cholesterol level is quite high, it is recommended for you to eat at least one cup of oatmeal every day.  If you do this on the daily basis, your cholesterol level will go down drastically for about 20 to 30 points.
  • Remember this number: 120 mg/dl.  If your fasting blood sugar is higher than this, you probably have diabetes.
  • Eat two cups of vegetable and two cups of fruits every day.  This is enough to sustain your body with the right nutrients you need every day.
  • Avoid fatty foods.  Instead, eat fish which is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • While standing, move your arms and legs randomly.  This would help you burn at least 150 calories if you do this every day.
  • Drink moderately.  Male drinkers are limited only to drink two bottles of beer, two glasses of wine, or a shot of hard drink.  While on the Female drinker’s side, they are limited only to drink one bottle of beer, one glass of wine, or a shot of hard drink per day.
  • Lastly, don’t forget to take your maintenance medicines every day to ensure longer life.
